Detailed breakdown

Days 1-4: Seek the Big 5 in the Masai Mara | 3 Nights

Up arrow

Masai Mara, Kenya

Once you arrive at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you are met by a representative and transferred to nearby Wilson Airport for a flight to the famed Masai Mara. On touchdown, your safari adventure starts right away with a game drive as you make your way to Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp.

You spend two full days exploring one of Kenya’s most rewarding game parks on expertly guided morning and afternoon game drives. The game viewing is amazing at any time of the year and includes opportunities to see the Big 5 but things really heat up from about August when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River from the Serengeti and spread across the Masai Mara to create the Great Migration, one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectacles.

Kichwa Tembo lies within proximity of the path of the Migration and the herds remain in the area until about early November. Hot-air balloon rides, spectacular bush breakfasts or dinners, interpretive bush walks and night game drives can also be arranged.

Days 4-5: Catch your breath in Johannesburg | 1 Night

Johannesburg, South Africa

After breakfast you transfer to the local airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Wilson Airport. In Nairobi you will be transferred to The Ole Sereni Hotel near Nairobi National Park. If time permits, take the opportunity to visit the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Centre.

Days 5-8: Look for leopards in Sabi Sands | 3 Nights

Kruger National Park, Kruger Private Reserves, South Africa

Make your way back to OR Tambo International Airport for your scheduled flight to Ulusaba Airstrip near the Kruger National Park. From the airstrip, you are transported to Exeter River Lodge, your luxurious accommodation for the next three nights.

Set in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve adjoining the Kruger, this timeless safari camp lies under a canopy of ebony trees and overlooks the Sand River. Settle in and, if there is time, set out on your first afternoon game drive in the reserve.

Spend the next two days soaking up the legendary Sabi Sands game-viewing experience as you head out on early morning and late afternoon game drives in an open 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced guide and tracker.

Guided walking safaris and night drives are also offered at Exeter and the focus is firmly on delivering an unforgettable game-viewing adventure. You go in search of the Big 5 – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo – and other classic African animals in this game-rich environment.

The Sabi Sands is well-known for its abundance of leopards and it would be unusual not to see this elusive cat during the course of your game drives.

Days 8-11: Enjoy the Pleasures of Cape Town | 3 Nights

Up arrow

After a final game drive and breakfast, return to Ulsusaba Airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Johannesburg. From here, connect with a flight to the Mother City – Cape Town!

On arrival, you are met by a representative and taken to the Cape Grace Hotel at the V&A Waterfront. The rest of the day will be yours to relax at this lavish hotel or to start exploring Africa’s favourite city.

Spend the next two full days discovering all that Cape Town has to offer, including a private escorted tour of the Cape Winelands. You will have plenty of time to take the rotating cable car up Table Mountain, head out to Robben Island to see the prison that housed former South African president Nelson Mandela or to take a tour of Cape Point and the endangered Africa penguin colony at Boulders Beach.

The Cape Grace lies at the heart of the ever-popular V&A Waterfront and offers a safe, cosmopolitan and friendly shopping, dining and entertainment environment.

On day 11, transfer back to Cape Town Airport for your outgoing flight and the end of your African journey. This tour would combine both easily and well with an Indian Ocean holiday in sub-tropical KwaZulu-Natal or idyllic Mozambique.
